Research

Pseudomonas aeruginosa Resistance to Bacteriophages and Its Prevention by Strategic Therapeutic Cocktail Formulation

Antimicrobial resistance poses a significant threat to modern healthcare as it limits treatment options for bacterial infections, particularly impacting those with chronic conditions such as cystic fibrosis (CF). Viscous mucus accumulation in the lungs of individuals genetically predisposed to CF leads to recurrent bacterial infections, necessitating prolonged antimicrobial chemotherapy. Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections are the predominant driver of CF lung disease, and airway isolates are frequently resistant to multiple antimicrobials.

Research

Assessing the impact of the 13 valent pneumococcal vaccine on childhood empyema in Australia

Empyema is a serious complication of pneumonia frequently caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae (SP). We assessed the impact of the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (13vPCV) on childhood pneumonia and empyema after inclusion in the Australian National Immunisation Program.

Research

Harnessing the potential of modern omics approaches to study plant biotic and abiotic stresses

The growing food demands and increasing urbanization are putting pressure to obtain more crop productivity from the shrinking piece of land. Climate change is further complicating the food chain by putting a negative impact on crop productivity by giving rise to multiple biotic and abiotic stresses.

Research

Maternal smoking and low family income during pregnancy as predictors of the relationship between depression and adiposity in young adults

We aimed to investigate the influence of antenatal and postnatal factors on the increasing incidence of overweight/obesity and mental health disorders in young adults

Research

Construct validity and responsiveness of the functional Tactile Object Recognition Test for children with cerebral palsy

The functional Tactile Object Recognition Test demonstrated preliminary construct validity, and was positively associated with an upper limb activity measure

Research

Age at menarche and childhood body mass index as predictors of cardio-metabolic risk in young adulthood: A prospective cohort study

Earlier age at menarche may be indicative of a higher risk profile for cardiovascular disease in young adulthood

Research

Are children more vulnerable to mesothelioma than adults?

We found no greater susceptibility to mesothelioma among those first exposed to asbestos as children than those first exposed as adults

Research

Elucidating the genetic architecture of Adams-Oliver syndrome in a large European cohort

The purpose of this study was therefore to comprehensively examine the genetic architecture of Adams-Oliver syndrome in an extensive cohort
